Executive Order 14033, signed on 8 June 2021, authorises the US Treasury to block the property of persons contributing to destabilisation of the Western Balkans: threatening regional peace or territorial integrity, undermining democratic institutions or agreements such as the Dayton Accords, or engaging in serious human rights abuse or corruption there. It expands emergency authorities dating from 2001 and was further amended in January 2025.
